Employers Getting Ready

You can incorporate career development activities prior to, during or post any work related experience.  Here are a list of common Career Development activities you could include.

Pre placement

  1. Talks to students about your industry/types of roles
  2. Pre selection process for work placement e.g. Resume, interviews, online selection tasks.

During Placement

  1. Provision of a “career” mentor
  2. Opportunities for self-evaluation of skills, values, personality, emotional intelligence and link to career development
  3. Rotate students through a range of roles and projects.
  4. In house speakers.
  5. Structured feedback/performance reviews
  6. Skill development/training

Post Placement

  1. Continued mentoring
  2. Use Web 2 Technology to continue dialogue e.g. Facebook, Blogs, ePortfolios.
  3. Invitation to business breakfasts.
  4. Provide opportunities for further training/professional development.
