For a workplace experience to really benefit your career development the following should occur:

  1. The key objectives of your placement should be clear.
  2. Expectations about the work placement should be clearly articulated
  3. Employers, students and academic staff must understand their respective roles and responsibilities;
  4. The work placement needs to benefit everyone involved:  the student, the employer and the university;.
  5. There should be opportunities for reflection on the experience and what this means for your career development pre, during and post placement.
